From ME to You

There are so many things we can lean from the choices we made in life. Though some choices are bad, yet we can learn great lessons from it.
Experience they say is the best teacher, it is only a fool that keep failing on the same spot.

Choices
When I speak about choices, am not taking about the choice of the cloths/Shoes/make-ups you wore to Church on Sunday morning or our beautiful shoes which we always select the best to match but choices made about life: your carrier, business, marital status, family etc.

Some choices were made in the early years of our life, which we regret now and most of which are difficult to corrector probably we must live with it the rest of life and if dear try to use force on it to change may cause life long destruction.

Case study

 2 Samuel 6

4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark. 5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals. 6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God. 8 And David was displeased, because the Lord had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day. 9 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and said, How shall the ark of the Lord come to me? 10 So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite. 11 And the ark of the Lord continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household.

12 And it was told king David, saying, The Lord hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.

13 And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.

14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

17 And they brought in the ark of the Lord, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts.

19 And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.

20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.

22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.

23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

Good intentions but bad choice

There are four characters in this bible passage I want to pay close attention too:

  • Uzzah who God struck dead because he wanted to help God- His choice cost Him his life. What lesson can we learn: every given instruction/commandment must not be trespass, even when the situation seems unpleasant. God does not anyone to touch the ark of covenant except his choose levites.
  • David bad choice of rejecting to put the Ark of God in his house because he was angry about how God struck dead Uzzah, as result lost the benefit/ blessing attached.
  • Obed-edom wise man who profited from the mistake of Uzzah and David by being blessed with his household by accommodating the Ark of God in his house for three months.
  • Michal a woman that cannot control her mouth emotion (or put in to check) destroyed her life because she remain barren all her life. She despise David, mocked of him for dancing naked in front of the Ark.

Choices have great consequences

Only the Levities are permitted to carry or touch the Ark; but he Uzzah want to help but God don’t need his help. Life sometime is like that, the help you think your are doing costing you your fortune are waste.

David- angry with God for killing Uzzah who wanted to help prevent Ark of God from falling- also lost the opportunity of being blessed by God for refusing the Ark God

Obededom – favour don’t know anybody address except the person favour decides to favour.  Hospitality play a good role in the life of anyone that is hospitable- Gen. 18.

Michal- someone who cannot take his/her eyes away from what they hear and see- „I must talk“ no you must not talk because is not your business.

Choices we made in the past is hurting us badly, let us not compound/add more solutions are what we need as Christian.

Yesterday is gone, there is nothing you and I can do about yesterday, it gone, we still have some hours before today is over, something can still be done, we can still correct some errors: choice friendship-rather an enemy; render good for evil; choose forgiveness rather malice or unforgiven,  one thing I know and this why my choice concerning forgiveness is clear, it hurts me more than anyone.

Paul’s love letter: 1 Choritians 13:3  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not LOVE, it profiteth me nothing. LOVE suffereth long, and is kind; LOVE envieth not; LOVE vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

Job 13:14-16

14 Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand? 15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. 16 He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.

Regardless of all our trials and challenges if pay close attentions we all can trace it to choices that had become lessons.

 Solution

It is not getting angry that is the solution but if seek biblical help:

  • Personal honesty – admit whatever you are doing that is wrong, don’t pretend about it and Ask God for mercy.
  • Speaking to God constantly and let God speak back to you in prayer closet.
  • Realise the problem and tackle it head on ( Jabez 1 Chronicles 4:6)
  • Don’t be too big for God to correct you (swallow your Pride) 1 John 2:16

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Zechariah 10:11

And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart away. 1 Peter 5:5

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
